Why gambling streams moved to crypto casinos — and Kick
- Twitch announced on Sept 20–21, 2022 that from Oct 18, 2022 it would prohibit streaming of slots, roulette and dice sites not licensed in the US or other jurisdictions with comparable consumer protections, naming Stake.com, Rollbit and Duelbits; poker, sports betting and fantasy sports were exempted. source
- Kick launched in December 2022, about two months after Twitch's ban, and is backed by Stake co-founders Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani; Bloomberg reported Stake and Kick share a Melbourne headquarters. source
- Kick restricted gambling streams to age-verified (18+) sites from Feb 1, 2025, and in March 2025 removed partner-program hourly payouts for the Slots & Casino category. source
- Stake ceased operating in the UK on March 10, 2025 after a UK Gambling Commission investigation into its logo appearing in adult content on social media. source
- California's AB 831, signed in October 2025 and effective Jan 1, 2026, bans dual-currency sweepstakes casinos (affecting Stake.us), with penalties up to $25,000 and a year in jail. source
- Stream Hatchet data for January 2026: Stake accounted for ~60% (6,600) of iGaming brand mentions in stream titles on Twitch and Kick, and the top 10 iGaming streamers were all on Kick (88.4M hours watched combined). source
What viewers should know
- Sponsored balances: several big streamers have said or been reported to play with money from casino deals. Their wins and losses are not what an ordinary player experiences.
- The house edge doesn't change on camera: slots and originals return less than you bet over time — see provably fair explained and what bonuses really cost.
- Check the casino, not the streamer: licence, withdrawal terms and KYC matter more than who promotes it. Use our rating and the 12 red flags checklist.
